Pain
Pains are not usually a singular concern. It is usually associated with injury or some disease. Pains are of various intensities: acute pain, chronic non-malignant pain and chronic malignant pain. Each kind of pain has an associated reason. Doctors usually prescribe medication for the disease and neglect the pain associated. Chronic pains usually come unheralded and can be very difficult to diagnose. Analgesics or painkillers are usually self-prescribed. But you must know which pain killer affects which part of the body. You must first diagnose as to the cause of the pain and then decide on the analgesic.
The site of pain can be either the bone, muscle or the nerves. Various analgesics function differently. Ultram for example works directly on the brain and spinal cord. It reduces the size of the pain signal and thus reduces the pain. As for soma, it blocks the pain signals and thus prevents you from suffering pain. Celebrex and bextra acts on the joints and helps arthritis ridden patients with a pain-free movement. As the pain increases some people also have a tendency to develop a sense of helplessness which drives the need for a double drug treating you for both the pain and the associated mental distress, like neurontin.
