Cholesterol
Cholesterol has been earlier referred to as problems which are associated with ageing. But not all human beings suffer from it. Let us see first evaluate why the symptoms of cholesterol bring such panic in an individual? Cholesterol is known to induce many other diseases especially cardio-vascular like heart attack, stroke and hypertension. Apart from these it also seriously affects the liver and kidney in the long run.
Cholesterol is not all bad. There are good cholesterol components called HDL and the bad cholesterol components called LDL. It is only when the HDL count decreases and LDL increases that cholesterol becomes dangerous. Cholesterol deposits on the inner lining of blood vessels and obstructs the normal flow of blood. This causes high blood pressure to develop and gradually causes heart problems. The heart has to exert extra effort to pump the blood to the extremities of the body.
Cholesterol is a slow killer. Before it can get to you, get proper medication. After 1987 a whole range of statins have been developed to treat cholesterol levels. You must be wondering why are so many statins required? Each of them has a different intensity of working. Let us compare the workings of lipitor (atorvastatin) and zocor (simvastatin). Lipitor lowers the LDL (bad cholesterol) more efficiently than zocor. Lipitor also raises the level of HDL (good cholesterol) in the blood. Those having high cholesterol count (190 or more) can use lipitor. Zocor is fat soluble and easily gets into the blood and works on the cholesterol better. With time we will see more medication being developed to dissolve out the bad cholesterol.
Whatever medication you take, you must supplement it with food free from saturated fats and low calorie. Apart from a careful diet one must exercise regularly to keep the cholesterol level to the normal count.
